Thank you Dr McGroarty

Thank you to Dr. Ed McGroarty!!

Catalina Island Health would like to congratulate Chief of Staff Dr. Ed McGroarty for his retirement on July 15th, 2024. Dr. McGroarty joined the organization in November of 2019 with 20 years’ experience as a practicing physician specializing in both Family and Emergency Medicine. His background included a decade in service in the United States Navy and is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. McGroarty was instrumental in Avalon’s COVID-19 response providing our residents and visitors world-class care and education. He was featured in informational video updates on safety measures and worked diligently with staff and administration to ensure his patients were as safe and informed as possible.

Early in 2023 Dr. McGroarty spent nearly a month with Task Force Yankee Ukraine training advanced combat medic and stabilization point courses to forces in Ukraine. He also trained civilians and police by participating in “stop the bleed” courses on how to pack wounds and use tourniquets. We would like to acknowledge that Dr. McGroarty spent his limited time away from his work as a provider for Catalina Island residents utilizing his skills in both rural and combat medicine to help train life-saving forces in a country battered by hostile incursion.

We are grateful for his example of leadership and courage during challenging times in healthcare. He has graciously agreed to stay on as Chief of Staff for a duration to ensure that Catalina Island Health continues to deliver the highest quality of medicine while this transition occurs. He is succeeded by a talented staff of Physicians and Nurse Practitioners:

Dr. Meghan Zomorodi, DO

Santa Dominguez, FNP

Dr. Aimee Warren, DO

Giselle Silebi, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC

Karla Parsons-Perisho, DNP, FNP-BC, CCSN

And introducing our newest practitioner to the organization, Dr. Cynthia(Cindy) Haq, recently retired as Clinical Professor and Chair of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of California, Irvine (UCI). Dr. Haq is dedicated to health equity and ecological restoration.  She loves the people and beauty of Catalina Island where she will provide primary care and promote collaboration between the CIH and UCI.

Please help us in thanking Dr. McGroarty for his commitment to the health of his patients and wishing him well on the next step of his journey in life providing medical care and education to citizens around the world. He will be booking and seeing patients until his July 15th official patient care retirement at Catalina Island Health.

Dr. McGroarty, your work to improve the health of this community is immensely appreciated and we value your contribution to our wellbeing.
