Dr. Daniel Davis MD, FACEP Presents a COVID-19 Update at Avalon City Council
Catalina Island Health's Dr. Daniel Davis MD, FACEP gives an update on the current local and global COVID-19 status at the Avalon City Council meeting on April 7, 2020. This update provides resources to available data and how to interpret and understand what is coming in the weeks ahead. He covers CI Health hospital operations and current adjustments to screening, infectious and non-infectious zones, and improving access to virtual care and communications with the Island community.
Dr. Davis also covers how CI Health is identifying and containing positive cases, as well as current updates to protocol for testing and transferring COVID positive patients to mainland. He covers CI Health's role as one of the first hospitals in a pilot program who will offer point of care testing and what we can learn from Singapore's public health system, testing and tracking as we are able to get access to faster testing on the island.
He also provides an update on the limitations of CI Health as a non-public health entity including the inability to release names or any identifiable patient information and the legal reasons why CI Health is not able to notify individuals and businesses who could have been in contact with the virus.
In this presentation Dr. Davis explains the scientific standpoint when it comes to proposed treatments such as Hydroxychloroquine and Remdesivir (which was removed from market for clinical trials), in addition to the vaccine development process, risk and timelines.
Finally, Dr. Davis answers community questions regarding topics like antibody testing, influenza data and testing, quarantine capabilities, personal protective equipment, hospital protocol, staffing and backup staffing plans, supplies, ability to care for the critically ill, testing data, risk factors and potential immunity.
